As we deal with single-digit temperatures here in Milwaukee, my attention wanders to more pleasant things -- like new cars, road trips, and next year's racing.
Impreza Design Concept
At the end of November, Subaru kicked off its new "Confidence in Motion" design and brand strategy at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Here's how Subaru explained the idea behind the car: "Built to express possible future Subaru design elements, the Impreza Design Concept conveys a sporty and lively 'four-door coupe' style. The Impreza Concept combines environmental compatibility and comfortable ride of the Impreza with the trusted performance that Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive provides. The designers blended two ideas -- 'dynamic flow and confident stance' -- to showcase Subaru's engineering core values of dynamic performance, safety, driving enjoyment, and quality. The Impreza Design Concept features a roomy 4-passenger interior." Find a video of the car on You Tube and even more about the L.A. Auto Show and the Impreza concept at Subaru Global.

Can't Wait for the Next Road Trip!
In four weeks, I leave with the Drive Performance WRX (DP WRX) for Florida. "Lucky dog!" you might exclaim. And I respond, "Doubly so!"
First, I'll get away from the Wisconsin winter for three days. Second, I'll be at a race track -- Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, Florida) for GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge test days. The most important part of this leg of the trip is cars on track.
From Daytona Beach, I drive north to Subaru headquarters in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. That's where I'll join the 10th Annual 48HRS of Tristate group with DP WRX. The event is being held January 12-16, 2011.
The group's itinerary takes participants to the New Jersey Pine Barrens on January 12, then from Cherry Hill for a long trek west to central Indiana. After a Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant tour, the group goes back east to Ohio, then northeast to New York (Buffalo, Ithaca, and Harriman). There's a lot more, too, including a cookout and tour of TurninConcepts in Fairfield, Ohio.
48HRS of Tristate isn't just a road trip. The group raises money for the American Cancer Society, and its participants are as fired up about the donations that they raise as they are about the road trip itself.
There are a lot more details about 48HRS of Tristate. Check it out here.
